IC INFORMATION
Name: Infinite.
Canon: Sonic Forces.
Age: Sonic sadly as a whole does not often give us canon ages for people, mostly it's villains. And it mostly exists in a time vacuum anyway...I headcanon he's about 23; a bit of a realistic age for the whole 'ultimate mercenary' thing, though he still seems a bit too young to make him very like. Old and grizzled.
Gender: Male.
Species: Jackal.
Appearance: The tallest of mountains, etc etc.
Canon point: Post-death. (but before the J-Pop AU. is that even canon??? i'm not sure.)
History: Here!
Personality answers: Explain which event in canon is most pivotal to your character's development, and who they are today.
Infinite's initial defeat by Shadow is quite possibly the spark that set Forces plot into motion; given how badly the defeat proved how weak he was, as well as just how badly he desired to no longer be weak--even going to the extent of having the Phantom Ruby implanted in his chest in the first place--it absolutely changed Infinite for the worse to realize how small of a fish he was in the big pond that is the Sonic universe. It drove Infinite to borderline insanity and despair, and he resolved that he was, in fact, really not okay with being made to feel afraid of someone else's power. And thus, he became the edgelord we unfortunately know today; one who believes power is everything, and one who will do anything to be the strongest alive.
What does your character think about physical appearances? Are they the sort to meticulously primp themselves, or could they not care less?
Infinite is actually pretty meticulous about his own personal appearance, surprisingly enough; admittedly this also plays into his obsession with wanting to appear strong, but Infinite actually took up wearing a mask to hide his weak, injured face once Shadow had finished trouncing him soundly, and Infinite takes surprisingly good care of his own appearance. He almost certainly judges others by their own, though he of all people knows that appearances aren't everything and looks at people's characters as well, though he has a habit of underestimating those who look weak or feeble. So while he pays it not too much mind on others, he pays incredible mind to his own appearance, wanting to appear as untouchable and badass as he wishes to come off. He hides his so-called weakness behind a very literal mask because he can't bear to face the reminder that he's weak, the physical scar that reminds him of his and his squad's defeat.
What would your character say is their best trait? What is truly their best trait?
Infinite would say that his best trait is his strength, unsurprisingly; he puts an incredible amount of value in strength and being strong. His strength comes in the form of a cool, cold confidence that makes him monologue like a villain at people, an assurance that is mostly entirely unearned, especially at his current canonpoint where it absolutely got him killed.
In truth, his actual best trait? Is Infinite's adaptability; Infinite is able to adapt on the fly in battle, able to make use of his surroundings and keep an eye on everything around him, planning on the fly when he's actually in a desperate situation. Infinite can and will rebuild himself from ashes, and he will do everything he can to adapt to the surroundings before him. He always has done this, even in his pursuit of power; while it's a trait he'll need to relearn to an extent, it's something of a genuine strength of his when he's actually threatened.
What would be your character's lowest, darkest moment they've lived through? How did they respond to their troubles and face their demons?
His (and his squad's) defeat at the hands of one (1) Shadow the Hedgehog, bar none; the scars from that debacle are something he still bears even now, using the very mask he dons to cover those scars of his weakness. He lived through his whole squad being wiped out, shaking and trembling like a child, and decided that he was in fact never going to be weak again. Infinite responded to this event with desperation, pure and simple; he needed to become strong at all costs. He could never be this weak and pathetic again, never again would he let anyone else get the upper hand on him like that. Never again would he be weak. Infinite insisted that he was reborn after that battle, but in the most blunt of terms...he really just gave into his own insanity at that point and decided to seize power by any means necessary.
Inventory: Nothing but his mask! The Phantom Ruby he had welded to his chest is something I'm taking away from him to force him to adapt and overcome, and to rely more on his new powers.
Powers/Abilities: So for the most part, Infinite himself is just a simple jackal with a lot of skill in hand to hand combat; canon hasn't ever given us a backstory on Infinite and how he came upon his former position as a mercenary (just that he was considered the 'Ultimate Mercenary', a position which I assume took him some time to reach), but Infinite is trained in physical combat and can fight well enough with the rest of them. While his size can prove to be a problem and his speed isn't the greatest (at least compared to Shadow, who's a bit of an unfair comparison given his ability to Chaos Control/Teleport), but he can put up a mean fight with tooth, claw, and blade, though he'd long discarded the little red short sword he fought with prior.
Due to being nerfed (and I'm going to insist on this being nerfed either completely or near completely, because Infinite would absolutely be insufferable and try to break the game with it), this won't be too much of a problem, but Infinite did undergo an experimental surgery to get a piece of something known as the Phantom Ruby attached to his chest. Or at least a replica of it; what the Phantom Ruby gave Infinite was the ability to cast illusions; virtual realities, more like, but with the ability to bring them into reality with ease, illusions is just the best way to refer to this. His power with the Phantom Ruby replica was so great that he was able to overwhelm forces with it's sheer power to create whatever it was he needed. Clones of a vicious foes' former enemies? On tap. Strange cubes that send you into a painful new virtual reality? He can do that too! Able to enhance himself so he could beat Sonic at his very best? His illusions could do that, too. Clones of someone you care about with no heart or soul, but very possibly the personalities and powers of them? Yep, that too! Energy beams, lasers, shockwaves, gravity distortion (that he mostly used to levitate himself but could attack with too), straight up trying to drop what can be perceived as the sun on people, opening up a null space...yeah, the best way I can describe the Phantom Ruby is like. Borderline bullshit. The basic summary of the Phantom Ruby's abilities is that it takes control of one's visual and depth perception and feeds incorrect info into the brain to create a new reality, but like. It basically gets used as a way to conjure whatever bullshit Infinite needs when the plot of Sonic Forces needs him to be menacing. Hell, it's really only his own hubris and overconfidence that stopped him from using this to the fullest, as well as one of the other Phantom Ruby prototypes. (which was also, admittedly, due to his hubris!)
Suffice to say: for the moderator's sake. Please do not give this back to him in any capacity. It's a headache and a half even for me, and I'm the one insisting on keeping it nerfed, I couldn't imagine how much headache it'd be for y'all. And considering that his death involved literally being consumed by the Phantom Ruby, it may be for the best...
Samples: Here & Here!
Goals: My main goal is just to see what kind of person Infinite will be at the end of all of this; canon does not do a whole lot with Infinite that isn't just having him be menacing and trying so very hard not to become weak again, to never become the trembling wreck he was after getting defeated by Shadow. What sort of path will he take, and where will he end up? I'm basically here for the ride, honestly, seeing whether he actually gains the means to try and redeem himself to a certain extent or if he just ends up becoming deeply destructive in new and exciting ways, especially given that he's going to be arriving after failing already.
Soul Choice: I've decided to go with Aves! (there will be references to him being a reptile on the TDM, that was my original plan before I decided to turn him into a vulture instead) A white-backed vulture to be precise; it represents his adaptability and his deep, burning desire to survive above all else.
